Monsignor McCarthy Council 5902

Monsignor McCarthy Council Knights Of columbus #5902 Carbonear entered a float in the Carbonear Santa Claus parade spreading The true meaning of Christmas with a keep Christ in Christmas float and took home second please in non commercial Grand Knight Phil Hurley and his son Noah Hurley excepted the plaque on behalf of the Knights of Columbus.

Special Olympics

Monsignor McCarthy Council # 5902 Carbonear is a huge supporter of the Tri Con special Olympics  , part of the light Up for Christ / Tree of Remembrance money and one game a month at our regular weekly Monday night bingo went to the special Olympics so on hand to except a check from Monsignor McCarthy Council for $500 was non other than Mr Rickie Duggan from Carbonear Rickie is a special Olympian and enjoys coming to bingo Monday nights and checking all the balls .

Supporting the Canadian Cancer Society.

 Brothers Frank Butt and Adrian Furey join ,Grand Knight Phil Hurley, at the mall selling Luminaries to be used at this years Relay for Life.Anyone can purchase a luminary, in memory of a departed loved one, or to show support to those fighting or have survived cancer.

Sacks and Snacks program

The Knights Of columbus have filled backpacks for several different schools in our area with school supplies to help to ease the burden for families

The backpacks are filled with rulers, crayons, exercises erasers, pencils.

 A big thank you to Gary Gosse the owner of Harbour breeze catering for donating a free meal coupon for the lunch bags for our local schools and to Tina Burden who owns Burden‘s foodex. She agreed to donate free meal coupons in the backpacks that we have for Cabot Academy in western Bay

Baby of the Month

 Baby of the month for October  is Jaylen Edmunds from Roaches Line.  Mom and baby are doing fine.  Mrs. Edmunds and her husband were delighted to receive the certificate, bookmark and gift card for $100.00. form The Knights Of Columbus.

Health Foundation Telethon

Monsignor Mccarthy Council #5902 Carbonear Knights Of columbus played a active role In the 29th Trinity conception Placentia health foundation telethon by answering the phones.Monsignor McCarthy Council was also  a grande giver

Seniors Bingo

For a number of years Archbishop Howley Council  have been running a monthly bingo from September to June at the Seniors Home which is now the Long Term Care. This is a presentation to one of our bingo fans who won a cash award. The seniors bingo is  held with council and fourth degree members.

Father Jackman Council have undertaken the refurbishment of the Grotto containing the Statue of Our Blessed Lady and the monument to the

unborn located in the St. Thomas of Villanova Cemetery located in Topsail.  Removal and repainting 

of the statue is underway and lighting upgrades and painting of the interior is underway.

Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest

There were 82 participants. The winners were 12-14 age group for Alcohol -Olivia Wilson Drugs- Lauren Tucker. Age group 8-11 for Alcohol-Sierra Kennedy, Drugs- Julia Bennett.

The winners at the State level were Age Group 12-14 for drugs -Lauren Tucker, 8-11 for Drugs- Julia Bennett and for Alcohol -Sierra Kennedy.

Medical Expenses

Father Jackman  Council presented a cheque for $1600 to help with a child's medical expenses.
